Dentures
Several missing teeth affect more than your smile. It affects speech and the ability to eat. Injury or disease can cause the loss of several teeth at a time. Two options for replacing several teeth at a time are partial or complete dentures.
A partial denture replaces a partial area of missing teeth in one arch (or row) that still has some natural teeth remaining. The replacement teeth are placed on a base with a wireframe that allows it to be supported by the remaining teeth.
If all the teeth of an arch are missing, a complete denture is used.
Dentures are custom-made for comfort and functionality. After placement, adjustments are made to prevent rubbing or irritating the mouth while talking or eating.
Dentures are removable and require gentle brushing daily to prevent plaque buildup, the same as natural teeth. The natural cleaning process of the mouth requires removing dentures at night while sleeping. Removal allows the gums to rest, and the dentures are soaked in water (generally with an effervescent cleaner to help remove plaque easier) before replacing them in the mouth in the morning.
